  1. It’s a perhaps too beautiful visualization, but strangely the numbers they give for deaths in Colombia are bizarrely low. Is it perhaps because they list is as just “battlefield deaths”? It leaves me wondering how they define that. They give 27,000 since the 60s, and cite their source as Uppsala. The Colombian government says 220,000 have died in the conflict since the 80s and admits that it is an extreme undercount. They say that 41,000 of those (I’m rounding) were combatants. It leaves me wondering if Uppsala/the poppy project somehow think some combatants weren’t on “the battlefield”?
